" This Poila Boishakh, let us hope for a bright, peaceful, and healthy future."

BENGALI'S NEW YEAR POILA BOISHAKH CELEBRATION APRIL 15,2021

The first day of the Bengali calendar is celebrated as Bengali New year or Poila Baisakh also known as Bengali Nababarsha. Today all Bengalis are celebrating this occasion in West Bengal the shadow of the Covid-19 situation. I am also celebrating this auspicious occasion with my family and friends.

Poila Baisakh is the beginning of the new financial year for the Bengali business community. They also worship the Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi in the morning time and then start their Bengali new year celebration.

After worshipping God, the Halkhata ceremony will be held today. The Halkhata occasion is opening a new ledger of traders and shopkeepers or businessmen.

On the Bengali New year's Eve Bengalis visit the Goddess Kali temple to pray for a happy year beginning and prosperous new life. Many Bengalis prefer to taking a holy dip early in the morning, just before dawn in the Ganges river. Before coming to Poila Baishakh many shops offered"Chaitra Sale" end-of-the-year sale.

My family also will celebrate this auspicious ceremony. In the first hour of the morning, I cleaned my house and decorated beautiful alpanas, and then I went to the supermarket for buying fresh vegetables and fruits. My mother has planned some delicious recipes for this Nababarsha. I bought some fish, mutton, vegetables, and sweets from the market. My mother made a breakfast called Puri and Chana curry. Puri is also known as Bengali's favorite food "Lucchi".

This breakfast is not only me, everyone's favorite dish. After I finished my breakfast, I wore new clothes for new year greetings exchanging with my close relatives and friends. My mother cooked a delicious menu for lunch because some close relatives and some of my bosom friends will come to my house. It is called a small get-together. The menu is rice, Bhetki Bhapa, Suktor Dal, Lobster curry and mutton, and of course Bengalis' favorite dish Sweets. Without sweets any Bengali ceremony is unimaginable.
